Do you know what DOGust is?
August 1st has been declared the universal birthday for Rescued Dogs whose actual birthdays are unknown! It’s another great excuse to spoil our sweet furry friends!
We’ve got a great recipe so your pet can have the best birthday pawty ever!
Pupcakes! Get in my mouf!
Servings: 6 pupcakes
Cook Time: 18-20 minutes
1/4 cup Creamy Peanut Butter
1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
1 tsp Vanilla
1/4 cup Honey
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 cup Naturally Sweetened Yogurt *For icing
1/4 cup Dry Dog Food *For sprinkling on top of finished pupcakes
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 6 cup regular size muffin baking tin with cupcake liners and set aside.
In a medium sized bowl, mix the egg, peanut butter, applesauce, vanilla and honey. Add the flour and baking soda to the mixture and mix well. Dough will be stiff and sticky.
Spoon mixture evenly into the 6 lined muffin cups.
Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until pupcakes are brown on top and done in the middle. Allow to cool completely before icing with yogurt. If desired, sprinkle the tops of yogurt-iced pupcakes with dry dog food.
Of course, every dog reacts differently (and some can’t do dairy), so check with your vet if you have any questions!
However you decide to spend the special day, enjoy that big smile and that wagging tail, and take pride in the fact that they’re being reminded in that moment how loved they are by you: their kind, caring human who changed their life forever.
Happy Birthday to all Rescued Dogs today!
